Character Information
Name: Julian "Jules" Thomas Edward Weatherford
House: Weatherford
Birthplace: Los Angeles, CA
Birthdate: November 7th, 1979
Age: 17
Gender: Male

Physical Details
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Green
Height: 5'10"
Body Type: Slender, athletic, somewhat feminine.
Appearance Notes: His clothing style can be described as a Gothic Mad Hatter look, with long tailcoats, puffy cravats, wide collars, top hats, and black or pinstripe dress pants, with many a spade motif present throughout. He also tends to sport a black cane with an ivory handle, and a deck of playing cards.

Jules also has an assortment of piercings that he swaps around depending on his mood. Most notable is the tongue-piercing, which is just a simple bar, but others include: left eyebrow (bar), left side of the nose (silver star stud), and multiple ear piercings that bear an assortment of hoops, and studs in a multitude of designs, including bats, spades, and the occasional dangling spider. (Most of these are imbued to prevent him from losing them, but he removes them all prior to dungeon/training challenges or duels.)
PB: Blood Dupre from Kuni no Alice

Life Details
Background: Julian was born to Laura and Thomas Weatherford in 1979. Thomas is a business man and fashion designer, having built up a fashion business that involves fashion shows, several lines of clothing, and costume design. The business employs some of Thomas' own family members, which allows them use their magical powers in some of their production methods without alerting the mundane world of their presence.

Julian's early educated came from a private family school for their smaller children, which included Julian and a few cousins being tutored by highly skilled (and highly expensive) professionals in their fields, from mathematics to literature. His literature tutor instilled a deep interest in historic literature and playwrights, including such writers as Edgar Allen Poe and William Shakespeare, as well as 'more recent' titles such as Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz.

His magic training came from family members. It was soon discovered that he shared similar magical interests as his father, and Thomas took it upon himself to see that Julian received the best possible tutelage, not only with private trainers, but with personal lessons between father and son. The personal lessons were Thomas' way of bonding with his son, while the trainers were included to ensure Julian's skills were properly expanded to suit his own needs and desires, rather than those of his father. He picked up a few telekinesis tricks form his father, which were used much in the home to fetch things he wanted without having to get up from his studies, and he created some imbued objects to aid with things like keeping drinks at their proper temperature or polishing his shoes.

Thomas also desires for Julian to follow in his footsteps, eventually taking over the family business. He encouraged Julian's childhood interest in fashion, and once it came time to explore the mundane world of private school, enrolled him in a fashion and business school. While polite, Julian was very private, and didn't make many friends there, though he was introduced to the Gothic subculture, which he studied intensely upon first introduction. While there, his interest in romantic tragedy broadened to include music, and even the lives of those around him, and his dress style emerged. Much of his designs have a heavily-gothic feel to them.

House Politics: As a proud member of House Weatherford, Julian allows his family's disdain for Patisse and Castillo to seep through in his social interactions, preferring the company of other Houses - even Vorinsky - over either of them. He won't go out of his way to cause trouble for Patisse or Castillo family members, however, as that would take effort he doesn't feel them worthy of, and simply tends to avoid them. When forced to deal with them, it's with forced politeness.

With Vorinsky, there's some minor lipservice, but he tends to overlook their lineage because at least they're not 'one of them'.

Personality: Julian is a very private person. He dislikes speaking of himself, shares little about himself or his life, and doesn't pry much when it comes to the personal lives of others - though there are certain circumstances where he may.

When it comes to social interaction, he's very polite and courteous with everything who isn't a Patisse or Castillo. In those cases, he prefers to avoid, but will force politeness when that's not possible, though if they persist, he may get snappy. In groups, he's the quiet guy sitting in the corner with a book, or listening quietly but looking like he doesn't want to be there, even when it's somewhere he wants to be.

It can be very difficult to read his emotional status, as he keeps it closely guarded. Except when he gets angry. Then everyone knows. Not very many things make him angry, but those that do provoke an emotional outburst with yelling and foot-stomping and door-slamming. Pretty much a tantrum. Once it's passed, he tends to act as if it never happened.

While he doesn't particularly enjoy group activities, preferring to study or practice his talents (both magical and in fashion design), thanks to his father's insistent that he 'get out more', Jules has been known to go out with some of his classmates for social gatherings and events, be it a trip to the theater or to a restaurant, to a school play, or what have you. His preferred social venues tend to be more up-scale, red-carpet events with champagne and hor d'oeurves, or fancy restaurants which require a tie (a cravat counts, right?).

Perhaps the most obvious thing about him is his great fondness for dark stories. He loves a good romantic tragedy, dark horror with a tragic ending, or anything with serious betrayal. Shakespeare is a favourite, but there are many others he enjoys, and this even includes comic books/graphic novels.

Although he prefers literature over screen productions, he does try to catch the latest 'gothic' movies in order to judge their claims. One of his favourites is The Crow - not only is it a movie rendition of a romantic tragedy comic series he enjoys, but the tragic loss of Lee during filming that postponed the film's production and release gives it an added level of tragedy. He awaits the release of The Crow: City of Angels, to see if it lives up to its predecessor.

This fondness for tragedy stems beyond fiction to those around him. If he discovers an acquaintance has a tragic past or and bound for tragedy in the future, he may attempt to pry about it, and follow them to see how things play out. He admires and respects them, for reasons even he is unsure of. Some small part of him even admires House Patisse for their betrayal against Almagoras, but he'd never admit it - especially to his own House. In certain cases, this interest and admiration for tragedy may even provoke him into attempting to form a relationship with a Patisse or Castillo, though it hasn't occurred yet.

When given the time, Jules likes to attend Gothic events in the city - though there aren't likely many local to the Academy, back home in California there happen to be quite a few. Gothic nights at the clubs are something of a secret joy for him - he acts as though he dislikes clubbing, and really he does, but when it's a Gothic night, it has a very different feel from most other nights.

Since he's not much of a social butterfly, Jules tends to need a fair bit of downtime between events. Without it he can get moody and cranky. His downtime is spent reading his tragic stories or studying. While most might not consider studying 'downtime', for him it's relaxing because it's something he can do alone while listening to music, ignoring the rest of the world.

He's very into his studies, both magical and mundane, and puts a lot of effort into his classes, listening intently to lectures, taking notes, and may pull all-nighters for written finals. The more hands-on finals get his full effort, as he pushes himself to do well, no matter the challenge. He believes most other students at the academy are wasting their talent, or not entirely interested in giving it their all, and tends to look down on those who prove him right, but those who prove him wrong gain his respect.

Flaws: Not being very social makes it difficult to build relationships with those around him, but he doesn't see this as a flaw because he doesn't feel he has much need for those relationships. He does try, however, since his father wishes him to, but those relationships are very casual, almost like co-workers: you put up with them because you're expected to, not because you desire their company.

For those he does seek out to try to build up more of a relationship, it tends to stem from an interest in their personal tragedies, which can be pretty off-putting if the target of his interest and admiration discovers why he's so interested in them. He tends to at least try to keep a lid on it, but occasionally his eagerness may show itself with prying into their ~tragic life~ and he'll give himself away.

Normally, in a social situation, he can remove himself if he needs to. In cases where that isn't an option, he can get moody, resenting those around him and feeling them responsible for his discomfort, to the point that he can act on this resentment, being rude or disrespectful. While he thinks nothing of it later, those who were targets of such treatment usually don't forget as easily as he does.

Magic and Skill Details
Magic and Skills:
Being the heir to a fashion and textile business, Julian's mundane skill is obviously fashion design. While this isn't a very useful skill in most cases, as a Weatherford, it allows him to design his own outfits and even put them together. He has created all the outfits he wears, and is quite proud of this fact, not caring what anyone thinks of his style.

His first school of magic is pulsing, with a focus on barriers. He makes liberal use of his barriers in any combative situation, blocking attacks and even barring opponents from getting near him, or, in some cases, preventing them from flying. He may even do this just to mess with someone, when the urge hits, or he may be spotted using a barrier to keep a door shut so someone can't get through.

His other pusling skills aren't very advanced. He can move small objects, but only one or two at a time. He can't lift anything heavy, and any attempts to use objects controlled in this way combatively fall short, sometimes literally.

He's also a talented imbuer. Some of his imbuing skills tend to revolve around making his daily routine less mundane, such as imbuing a cloth to polish things for him, or a mug to keep his coffee hot, or his accessories to keep from losing them. He has toyed with items for show, such as bombs that explode in displays of light or a shower of confetti. Combatively, he's recently started favouring imbuing items with pulsing magic to create effects - the easiest, so far, is a basic explosion, but further experimentation may lead to more interesting effects, such as creating gravity bombs. (He really does seem to like things that explode.)

With his interest in explosive devices, he's started training his pulsing talents to allow him more strategic placement of the devices he creates. Being able to move something right into someone's face before it explodes would make flash bombs more amusing useful, for example, rather than having to toss it in the general direction and get it close enough.

*Recently he's taken an interest in Invoking, and while so far he's only had some trial-and-error practice with it, he has picked up a long-term companion in the form of... well, usually a raven. Though sometimes a two-tailed fox. Or a black cat. Or... whatever else Lenore decides to turn into.
